Four months later, there it is.
Your job. Posted.
Maybe the title has been adjusted. Maybe a line in the description got reworded. Maybe the salary band is visible now, and it is higher than yours was.
But you would know that job anywhere. Some of those sentences are yours.
The seat was never eliminated. You were.
Let that feeling have its turn. Then let the analysis have one too, because the analysis is more useful, and the truth is less certain than it feels right now.
Roles get reposted for reasons that have nothing to do with the person who was laid off. A reorg that unwound itself. A budget line that came back in the new fiscal year. A team that discovered, three months in, that the work you did does not neatly distribute across the people who stayed.
Sometimes the reposting is an admission that the cut was a mistake, which is not the same thing as a plan to admit it.
And sometimes it means exactly what it looks like it means.
You cannot tell which from the feed. You do not have to.
There are two things worth doing now.
The first is for you: close the tab. The posting is not a message to you. Nobody at that company is thinking about how it lands on your screen. Reading it four more times at 11 p.m. will not give you information the first read did not.
The second is practical, and it takes thirty seconds: keep a record. Screenshot the posting. Note the date. Put it in the folder with your separation paperwork. You know the one.
Then forget about it.
Not because you are building a case. Because you do not need to know whether something matters in order to preserve it.
A single posting may mean nothing. Alongside other things you noticed, or other decisions the company made, it may mean something more. That is a question an employment attorney can help you evaluate if you ever need to ask it.
You do not need to solve that question tonight.
Part of this season is going to be grieving what you lost.
And part of it is going to be learning, ruthlessly, what not to carry with you.
Some days, that will feel like instability. Nothing is settled. Nothing is holding you in place.
Other days, the same thing will feel like mobility.
You can move differently now. You can decide where your attention goes.
The screenshot serves you. At least it could. Keep it.
The rest of the posting does not.
Take the screenshot.
Close the tab.
Put down what does not need to come with you.
You are going to need your hands free for what comes next.
