Who You Told · A story call

Who did you tell first?

There's a script for the meeting where you get laid off. There isn't one for the conversation you have when you get home, the call to your parents, or the dinner where a friend asks what you're working on.

We're writing those guides, one relationship at a time. This is the research behind them. If you lived it, from either side of the conversation, your story shapes what we write.

Before you start

This is personal. We'll treat it that way.

Skip any question you like. Nothing saves until you send it. At the end, you choose how your words can be used.

  1. A private form, not the comments.

Public comments are permanent and searchable. Nothing you write here is public unless you choose to be quoted.

  2. No names, no employer, no severance terms.

We don't need them, and some severance agreements limit what people can share. Leave out details that identify the people in your story, too.

  3. You choose how your words are used.

Background only, quoted anonymously, or credited by name. Background only is the default.

  4. People on our team read every story.

It's never sold, never shared with employers or partners, and never added to a mailing list.

  5. Change your mind and it's gone.

Before anything publishes, write to hello@gotpinkslipped.com and we'll delete it.

Your story

Tell us how it went.

Questions 1 and 2 and the box at the end are required, plus at least one of 5 to 8. Everything else is yours to skip.

Which side of the conversation were you on?

Who is this story about?

Choose any that apply.

How long ago was the layoff? (optional)

How soon after the layoff did the telling happen? (optional)

Where were you, what was said, how did it land?

Something you said, or something they said or did.

On either side of the conversation.

A line or a paragraph. Whatever you'd actually say.

How can we use your words?

Only used to show you your words before they publish, or for a follow-up if you tick the box. Never added to a list.
